EPF calculator guide โ FY 2024-25
EPF (Employee Provident Fund) is a mandatory retirement savings scheme for salaried employees in India. Both employee and employer contribute 12% of basic salary + DA every month. The accumulated corpus earns interest at 8.25% p.a. (FY 2024-25) and is tax-free on withdrawal after 5 years.
Employee: 12% of Basic+DA goes fully to EPF. Employer: 12% split as 3.67% to EPF + 8.33% to EPS (Employee Pension Scheme, capped at โน1,250/month based on โน15,000 salary ceiling). Total EPF = 15.67% of basic salary.
EPF qualifies under Section 80C (up to โน1.5L/year). Interest earned is tax-free. Withdrawal after 5 years of service is completely tax-free. VPF (Voluntary PF) lets you contribute more than 12% with same tax benefits.
Interest is calculated monthly but credited annually. Rate for FY 2024-25 = 8.25%. Monthly interest = (Opening balance + Contributions) ร 8.25% รท 12. This makes EPF one of the best risk-free returns available in India.
EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) provides monthly pension after age 58 with minimum 10 years service. Maximum pension = โน7,500/month. Employer contributes 8.33% (max โน1,250/mo) to EPS. Employee does NOT contribute to EPS directly.
